SF308S: shape and build

In the photos the Salvatore Ferragamo SF308S is the teardrop pilot lens that drops below the brow line. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. It rests on a double-bar bridge, with adjustable nose pads. Our supplier lists the frame as metal. A metal front is thinner and lighter on the face than acetate. It has thin wire temples. The colour code is 002, Salvatore Ferragamo's own name for this finish.

The numbers on the temple

It measures 61-15-145, which is the lens width, then the bridge, then the temple length, all in millimetres. A 61 mm lens puts it in the extra large range for sunglasses, so check it against a pair you already own. The pair leaves the supplier exactly as packed by the maker, so a small fit adjustment, if needed, is an optician's job.

The dark grey lenses

Dark grey lenses are fitted. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. Nothing in the supplier's data says these lenses are polarized or gives a UV rating, so we say neither.

If Matte Black is not your colour

The SF308S is also listed here as 715 (Light Gold with blue gradient lenses) and 044 (Light Ruthenium with green lenses). Shape and size are the same; only the finish changes.
