What the SL801 is

In the photos the Saint Laurent SL801 is a square front with a flat brow and squared corners. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a saddle bridge that spreads the weight across the nose, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The feed gives the material as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. Acetate temples complete the frame. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. Look for the metal corner inserts. Colour 002 is how Saint Laurent labels this version.

The size is 50-21-145: lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. At 50 mm across the lens this is a medium frame. It ships unadjusted, straight from the box; a quick visit to an optician sorts any fit issue.

Lens colour and finish

Brown lenses are fitted. A brown tint warms the view slightly and sharpens contrast. An even, flat tint. Polarization and UV rating are not in the supplier's data for this pair, so neither is claimed here.
