The SL740, front to temple tip

In the photos the Saint Laurent SL740 is a rectangular front, wider than it is tall. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. The frame sits on a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The feed gives the material as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. The frame is finished with acetate temples. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. Its signature is the translucent front with tortoiseshell temples. The colour code is 002, Saint Laurent's own name for this finish.

Reading the size

Written on the inside of the temple as 52-21-135, those are the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. The lens width of 52 mm is medium for a sunglasses frame. Frames ship as the maker boxed them, without adjustment, and a local optician can fine-tune the fit.

Through the lens

Brown lenses are fitted. A brown tint warms the view slightly and sharpens contrast. An even, flat tint. No polarization or UV figure comes with this pair from the supplier, and we do not add one.
