SL740: shape and build

In the photos the Saint Laurent SL740 is a rectangular front, wider than it is tall. It has a full rim all the way round each lens. The frame sits on a saddle bridge that spreads the weight across the nose, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The frame material is acetate, per the supplier. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. It has wide acetate temples. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. The detail that stands out is the gold script logo on temple. Colour 005 is how Saint Laurent labels this version.

Reading the size

The size is 52-21-135: lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. At 52 mm across the lens this is a medium frame. If the fit needs a tweak once it arrives, any optician can adjust it; pairs ship exactly as the maker packed them.

Lens colour: grey. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. An even, flat tint. No polarization or UV figure comes with this pair from the supplier, and we do not add one.
