SL697: shape and build

In the photos the Saint Laurent SL697 is a rectangular front, wider than it is tall. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. It rests on a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. Our supplier lists the frame as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. Wide acetate temples complete the frame. Colour 001 is how Saint Laurent labels this version.

The numbers on the temple

Written on the inside of the temple as 51-21-140, those are the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. At 51 mm across the lens this is a medium frame. Nobody bends the temples or nose rest before shipping; an optician can do that in a few minutes if the fit is off.

Through the lens

Black lenses are fitted. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. Polarization and UV rating are not in the supplier's data for this pair, so neither is claimed here.
