A closer look at the SL563

In the photos the Saint Laurent SL563 is a cat-eye front that lifts at the outer corners. It has a rim along the bottom only. Across the nose there is a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The feed gives the material as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. The frame is finished with acetate temples. The branding sits on the lens. Its signature is the flat top semi-rimless design with mounting rivets. Colour 001 is how Saint Laurent labels this version.

Size and fit

Written on the inside of the temple as 58-16-145, those are the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. The lens width of 58 mm is large for a sunglasses frame. No one adjusts the fit before it ships; an optician can tweak the nose and temple bend in minutes.

Through the lens

Black lenses are fitted. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. An even, flat tint. No polarization or UV figure comes with this pair from the supplier, and we do not add one.
