The PLD6186/S at a glance

In the photos the Polaroid Core PLD6186/S is a square front with a flat brow and squared corners. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. It rests on a saddle bridge that spreads the weight across the nose, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The supplier lists the frame material as plastic; in the photos the front has the look of acetate. It has acetate temples. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. Look for the vertical gold bars at frame front corners. Polaroid Core files this colourway as code 0807M9.

Reading the size

The size is 54-18-145: lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. At 54 mm across the lens this is a medium frame. No one adjusts the fit before it ships; an optician can tweak the nose and temple bend in minutes.

What the lens does

The lenses are grey polarized. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. An even, flat tint. They are polarized, per the supplier's lens description: reflected glare from wet roads and water is cut down.
