The PLD4163/S at a glance

The photos show a square front with a flat brow and squared corners. There is a full rim all the way round each lens. The frame sits on a saddle bridge that spreads the weight across the nose, and the nose rest is part of the frame. Our supplier lists the frame as plastic. An injected plastic frame is light and springy. Acetate temples with a metal plaque at the hinge complete the frame. Polaroid Core files this colourway as code 04N7SP.

The numbers on the temple

Written on the inside of the temple as 55-18-145, those are the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. A 55 mm lens puts it in the large range for sunglasses, so check it against a pair you already own. No one adjusts the fit before it ships; an optician can tweak the nose and temple bend in minutes.

The bronze polarized lenses

Bronze polarized lenses are fitted. A brown tint warms the view slightly and sharpens contrast. They are polarized, per the supplier's lens description: reflected glare from wet roads and water is cut down.
