DIONNA/S: shape and build

Seen front on, this is a butterfly front, wide at the top and tapering down. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a saddle bridge that spreads the weight across the nose, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The feed gives the material as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. Acetate temples with a metal plaque at the hinge complete the frame. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. Its signature is the gold-tone spade detail on temples. Colour 0807WJ is how Kate Spade labels this version.

Size and fit

Written on the inside of the temple as 52-19-140, those are the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. The lens width of 52 mm is medium for a sunglasses frame. The pair leaves the supplier exactly as packed by the maker, so a small fit adjustment, if needed, is an optician's job.

Lens colour and finish

Lens colour: grey gradient. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. A gradient tint, darker at the top than at the bottom. We make no polarization or UV claim for these lenses: the supplier's data does not include one.
