A flat brow and a square frame

The CL40092I is built around a straight top line. The brow runs level from one temple to the other with no dip at the bridge, the lenses hang from it as two near-perfect squares with slightly rounded lower corners, and the rims are thick enough that the frame reads as a single slab of acetate rather than a wire outline. The temples are wide and flat where they meet the front, then taper gently toward the ear. There is no visible hinge hardware on the outside, only the three small gold dots that Celine uses as its mark, set in a row beside the word CELINE in gold.

Dark havana with a brown gradient

Color 52F is a dark havana: a deep red-brown tortoise that reads almost black at a distance and shows its amber mottling up close, especially across the brow where the acetate is thickest. The lenses are brown with a gradient, darker across the top and lighter toward the bottom edge, which keeps the frame from looking opaque and lets a little of the eye show through. Brown lenses warm the view slightly and add contrast; the gradient means the lower half is easier to look down through.

Size: 60-11-145, wide lenses, narrow bridge

The three numbers are lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimeters. A 60 mm lens is wide, the mark of an oversized frame. The 11 mm bridge is unusually narrow, because the flat brow carries the two lenses close together and the keyhole-free bridge is cut into the acetate itself; the result is a front that is wide overall but not gappy at the nose. The 145 mm temples are a standard length. On most faces this frame sits large and covers from the eyebrow to the top of the cheek.

The three dots

The trio of small round studs on each temple is Celine's signature on its acetate eyewear. On this model they are gold-toned, placed near the front of the temple just behind the hinge, with CELINE spelled out beside them. Inside the left lens, printed small, are the CE mark and the model code.
