A big square drawn in thin wire
The VE2227 is an oversized square, but it is drawn with the thinnest line Versace uses: a single run of matte gold wire around each lens, a flat bridge that sits straight across, and slim round-section temples. The matte finish keeps the gold quiet, closer to brushed brass than to polished jewellery, so the frame reads as a soft outline around the lenses rather than as hardware. The corners are squared at the top and gently rounded at the bottom, which is what keeps a square this size from looking boxy on the face.
The Medusa at the hinge
The one piece of ornament is a round gold medallion at each hinge, carrying the Medusa head that Versace uses as its emblem. It sits on the outside of the temple just behind the front, so it shows in profile. Behind it the temples run plain and thin to dark tortoise acetate tips, the only non-gold part of the frame, which pick up the warm tone of the lenses.
Rose-gold mirror lenses
