A closer look at the SP6046

In the photos the Spyder SP6046 is a square front with a flat brow and squared corners. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. Our supplier lists the frame as plastic. An injected plastic frame is light and springy. It has mixed metal and acetate temples. The branding is printed inside the temple. The detail that stands out is the textured mesh detail on bridge. Spyder files this colourway as code 414.

Size and fit

The size is 56-18-140: lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. A 56 mm lens puts it in the large range for sunglasses, so check it against a pair you already own. It ships unadjusted, straight from the box; a quick visit to an optician sorts any fit issue.

The grey gradient lenses

The lenses are grey gradient. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. A mirror coating that hides the eyes and throws glare back. A gradient tint, darker at the top than at the bottom. The supplier's data carries no polarization or UV rating for this pair, so we claim none.
