A closer look at the SF317S

What you get is a square front with a flat brow and squared corners. It has a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a plain single bridge, with adjustable nose pads. The feed gives the material as metal. A metal front is thinner and lighter on the face than acetate. The frame is finished with metal temples. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. The detail that stands out is the dark green enamel stripe on temples. Salvatore Ferragamo files this colourway as code 750.

Reading the size

Written on the inside of the temple as 57-16-140, those are the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. At 57 mm across the lens this is a large frame. No one adjusts the fit before it ships; an optician can tweak the nose and temple bend in minutes.

The green gradient lenses

Green gradient lenses are fitted. A green tint sits between grey and brown: natural colour with a touch more contrast. A gradient tint, darker at the top than at the bottom. Polarization and UV rating are not in the supplier's data for this pair, so neither is claimed here.
