SL740: shape and build

The photos show a rectangular front, wider than it is tall. It has a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. Our supplier lists the frame as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. The frame is finished with wide acetate temples. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. Look for the contrasting tortoiseshell temples on black front. Saint Laurent files this colourway as code 004.

The numbers on the temple

The size is 52-21-135: lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. The lens width of 52 mm is medium for a sunglasses frame. The pair leaves the supplier exactly as packed by the maker, so a small fit adjustment, if needed, is an optician's job.

The dark grey lenses

The lenses are dark grey. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. An even, flat tint. We make no polarization or UV claim for these lenses: the supplier's data does not include one.

If Black/Havana is not your colour

The SL740 is also listed here as 005 (Shiny Black with grey lenses), 002 (Transparent Brown/Havana with brown lenses) and 003 (Transparent Cream/Havana with grey silver mirror lenses). Shape and size are the same; only the finish changes.
