A closer look at the SRC040S

What you get is a square front with a flat brow and squared corners. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The frame material is acetate, per the supplier. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. The frame is finished with wide acetate temples. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. Its signature is the studs along top frame and temples. Roberto Cavalli files this colourway as code 09X7.

Reading the size

The size is 54-20-140: lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. A 54 mm lens puts it in the medium range for sunglasses, so check it against a pair you already own. It ships unadjusted, straight from the box; a quick visit to an optician sorts any fit issue.

The brown gradient lenses

Brown gradient lenses are fitted. A brown tint warms the view slightly and sharpens contrast. A gradient tint, darker at the top than at the bottom. No polarization or UV figure comes with this pair from the supplier, and we do not add one.
