PH4201U: shape and build

What you get is a cat-eye front that lifts at the outer corners. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. The feed gives the material as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. It has acetate temples with a metal plaque at the hinge. The colour code is 619673, Polo Ralph Lauren's own name for this finish.

Size and fit

It measures 55-18-145, which is the lens width, then the bridge, then the temple length, all in millimetres. The lens width of 55 mm is large for a sunglasses frame. The pair leaves the supplier exactly as packed by the maker, so a small fit adjustment, if needed, is an optician's job.

The dark brown lenses

Dark brown lenses are fitted. A brown tint warms the view slightly and sharpens contrast. Nothing in the supplier's data says these lenses are polarized or gives a UV rating, so we say neither.
