A closer look at the GG1692S

In the photos the Gucci GG1692S is an oversized square front that covers a lot of face. The lens is held by a full rim all the way round each lens. It rests on a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. Our supplier lists the frame as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. The frame is finished with acetate temples with a metal plaque at the hinge. The branding sits on the lens. Look for the gold interlocking logo on temple. Gucci files this colourway as code 001.

Reading the size

Written on the inside of the temple as 54-18-135, those are the lens width, bridge width and temple length in millimetres. The lens width of 54 mm is medium for a sunglasses frame. The pair leaves the supplier exactly as packed by the maker, so a small fit adjustment, if needed, is an optician's job.

The grey lenses

The lenses are grey. Grey is the neutral tint: it dims light evenly without shifting colours. An even, flat tint. The supplier's data carries no polarization or UV rating for this pair, so we claim none.
