Dior's oversized square, cut in dark havana
The 30Montaigne SU is one of Dior's big-square sunglasses: two tall, almost straight-sided lenses in a tortoise acetate rim, with a flat top line that runs level across the brow. The acetate is a dark havana, mostly deep brown with amber flecks that show where the light catches the edge. The front is wide and the lenses are deep, so the frame covers from above the eyebrow to the top of the cheek.
The CD cut-out and the metal bridge
Two details set this model apart from a plain square. The two rims are not joined by acetate but by a thin metal bar at the bridge, so there is a gap of open air between the lenses above the nose. And at each outer corner the acetate thickens into a block through which the letters C and D are cut clean through, so you can see daylight through the logo. The temples that leave those blocks are slim black metal; just behind the hinge each one splits into two arms that rejoin further back, before ending in a plain black tip.
Grey mirror lenses
The supplier lists the lenses as grey mirror. Seen straight on they are a dark neutral grey; from an angle they pick up a soft sheen rather than a hard chrome reflection, and they read slightly warm against the brown rim. Grey is the tint that keeps colours true, so the view through them is simply darker, not tinted. The supplier gives no other lens detail, so we describe only what we can see.
