The BV1277S at a glance

In the photos the Bottega Veneta BV1277S is a geometric front with angled edges. There is a full rim all the way round each lens. Across the nose there is a plain single bridge, and the nose rest is part of the frame. Our supplier lists the frame as acetate. Acetate is the plant-based plastic that most designer frames are cut and polished from sheet; it holds deep colour and an optician can re-adjust it with heat. Acetate temples with a metal plaque at the hinge complete the frame. The branding runs along the outside of the temple. Look for the gold triangular metal plaque on temples. The colour code is 003, Bottega Veneta's own name for this finish.

It measures 57-17-140, which is the lens width, then the bridge, then the temple length, all in millimetres. A 57 mm lens puts it in the large range for sunglasses, so check it against a pair you already own. Nobody bends the temples or nose rest before shipping; an optician can do that in a few minutes if the fit is off.

The lenses are green. A green tint sits between grey and brown: natural colour with a touch more contrast. An even, flat tint. The supplier's data carries no polarization or UV rating for this pair, so we claim none.
